Joseph Galea Curmi studied at the Faculty of Theology, Malta, graduating S.Th.B. in 1988 and S.Th.L. in 1991. He pursued his studies at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome, where he successfully defended his doctoral S.Th.D. thesis in Pastoral Theology in 1998. He was appointed lecturer at the Department of Pastoral Theology in the Faculty of Theology, University of Malta in 1999 where he lectures in Pastoral Theology.
Joseph Galea Curmi is also a member of the Board of the Archdiocesan Institute for Pastoral Formation as well as a member of the European Society for Catholic Theology. He has taken part in several International Conferences.
Co-editor of four publications, intended to help the Christian community at large and especially parishes in their celebrations: Marija Omm il-Ħniena, Omm il-Maħfra (1983); It-Triq tas-Salib li twassal għall-glorja (1984);Tilqima mill-Maxtura (1992); Ħobż Maqsum għal dinja ġdida (1993).
Editor of the Diocesan Synod final documents published by the Archdiocese of Malta in 2003 and 2004:Dokumenti tas-Sinodu Djoċesan, Malta 2003-2004 (a series including 11 books).
Editor of a 20 booklets, published in 2004, dealing with issues discussed in the Diocesan Synod, such as: environment, politics, media, option for the poor, several social issues.
